The MPTA UP District will be holding its 5th Annual UP Golf Social this year on Friday, July 26th at The Heritage, Marquette Golf Club, 1075 Grove Street, in Marquette. The 9 hole scramble will begin at 3pm ET. We currently have four tee times reserved and can increase that number. Please contact Edward Mathis to register. Golfers are all talent levels are encouraged to attend. You can register as a single golfer or as part of a foursome. The winning foursome will receive medals and the top golfer will be awarded the coveted "Crimson Jacket." Following the golf social, we will adjourn to a banquet room at the Marquette Golf Club to complete the social with a MPT-PAC fundraiser at ~7pm ET. This has typically been a fun event with opportunity for networking, and discussion/education on current state and federal issues affecting physical therapy in Michigan. Attendance at the golf outing is not required to attend the PAC Social and food will be provided. Last year, we raised over $1000 for the PAC, and this year we hope to raise even more as we work towards Consumer Direct Access to Physical Therapy in Michigan. If you cannot attend the event, please consider making a secure online donation through this link: https://netforum.avectra.com/eWeb/StartPage.aspx?Site=MPTA&WebCode=HomePage

C. UP District Golf Social News-2012 Recap
Posted by Edward Mathis
The UP District held their annual Golf Social on July 24th at Timberstone Golf Course
in Iron Mountain. This year's outing broke out previous attendance record with 15 attendees and four groups.
The weather was ideal and the course was beautiful making for a great evening. For the second straight year, a playoff was needed to decide the winning group as Team Mathis (Edward Mathis, Jeff Moore, Andy Mendina, and Steve Short) tied Team McGuire (Tim McGuire, Neal Johnson, Lanny Brown, and Jessica Roell) at 3 under, a UPGS record. Andy Mendina then won the sand trap chip shot contest to win 1st Place for his team and claim the "Crimson Jacket" as the 2012 UPGS Champion. Team Moore (Chris Moore, Mike Zahn, and Lane Lindeman) took home third place despite playing short-handed with the last minute loss of 2011 UPGS Champion Brian Kass at 1 under. Mike Zahn won the closest to the pin contest on hole #8 rolling to within 10 feet of the green to win a new Aston Martin car (1/64 scale). Team Phillips (John Phillips, Terry Trip, Mark Stonerock, and Aaron Laugensleiter) finished at 2 over.
Following the golf social, the MPTA UP District sponsored a PAC fundraiser with discussion on current issues effecting
Physical Therapy in Michigan. This year's fundraiser raised a grand total of $1040.00 for the MPT-PAC!
Overall, an excellent time was had by all. Next year, we will likely consider holding the event at Greywalls Golf Course in Marquette as well as possisbly organizing a hockey outing (NMU vs. Tech) this winter.
Thank you very much to all the attendees for this year's event! I hope that we can continue to build on this next year.
Finally, if you missed your chance to attend and donate to the MPT-PAC, the good news is you still can. Please go to www.mpta.com and click on the PAC Donation tab on the right.
