UP District Golf Social: Brian Kass leads team to come from behind playoff win.

In an exciting playoff to end the 3rd Annual UP District Golf Social held on July 26th at TimberStone Golf Course in Iron Mountain, Brian Kass drained a 100+ foot putt on the multi-level putting green to win the title for his team. Team Kass, also consisting of Mike Zahn, Chris Moore, and Andy Medina got off to a slow start, going to hole #5 of the 9-hole scramble at +1. Zahn then hit a booming fairway shot onto the edge of the green and Kass nailed a long eagle putt to bring the team to -1. Meanwhile, Team Johnson (Neal Johnson, Tim McGuire, John Philips, and Edward Mathis) started off strong with two birdie putts to start the round. After exchanging a set of birdie/boogies, Team Johnson moved to hole #9 with a one-stroke lead, but after feeding the woods, were left with a long putt to save par. Mathis nearing hit the putt, but it just missed the left edge and a playoff was forced with both teams tied at -1. In winning the playoff, Kass also won a $50 gift certificate to Spiro’s Restaurant in Iron Mountain. Other highlights include: Medina hitting a monster drive on #3 to win longest drive and a set of golf balls; Mathis hitting a not so monster drive on #4 to win the furthest from the pin challenge; and Moore putting his #8 tee shot closest to the pin and winning a 1970 Pontiac GTO (1/64 scale). Overall, it was a great time and after the event, the two teams met had drinks and pizza, and discussed current legislative events in Michigan, while supporting the MPT-PAC.
