By financially supporting the MPT-PAC you will ensure that a single voice dedicated to protecting and advancing the profession of physical therapy will be heard where it is needed most: the state capital. The MPT-PAC educates legislators so that they can come to realize that the services and functions physical therapy provide to the community are extremely beneficial.
- Direct consumer access: Patients need full consumer access to physical therapy services to enable the profession to be able to provide the best patient care.
- Reimbursement: Developing and moving forward in the area of reimbursement will enable physical therapists and physical therapist assistants to deliver high quality care and also be reimbursed at fair and equitable rates with third party reimbursement.
- Insurance: Moving forward in developing firm relationships with insurers, self-insured companies, and payers of all kinds will ensure that the public is obtaining high quality, cost effective and accessible physical therapy care. The MPT-PAC is trying to work toward the reduction or elimination of referral-for-profit arrangements.
Contributing to the MPT-PAC allows one to have an increased ability to contact one's local legislators, increased ability to be perceived as a local health care leader, increased opportunity to affect a legislator's image of one's facility and physical therapy services, and increased success in shaping health care policy in Michigan.
Donations are used to make contributions to candidates running for political offices.
No, the MPT-PAC is bi-partisan. Our giving is not based on party labels. We focus strictly on physical therapy and therefore contribute to candidates that support the protection and growth of the profession of physical therapy.
The committee assesses the previous track record of the incumbents such as accessibility to MPT-PAC and MPTA leadership and our advocates, whether they carried legislation on behalf of physical therapy, or if they spoke in support of physical therapy bills. If the incumbent had any committee assignments and leadership positions is also taken into account.
If no incumbent is running, we talk to the candidate(s) in an attempt to see what he/she knows about the practice of physical therapy and if he/she is sympathetic to our views. This also provides us the opportunity to educate potential new legislators about who physical therapists are and what they do. In addition, we encourage the input of local physical therapists and rely on political intelligence to assist us in determining if the candidate is "electable."
The MPT-PAC is not supported by MPTA membership dues. MPTA legislative successes are funded entirely from donations to the MPT-PAC.
Any individual can contribute to the MPT-PAC but no corporate donations can be accepted.
